THIS SUNDAY: Matthew 20:20-28
As we finish chapter 20, notice there are two sets of men, each with a request made to Jesus. We will take a Sunday for each set of men.
1/5/2025 - The request of James and John
1/12/2025 The request of two blind men.
Read through our text for this week, and see Jesus' response to the first request (which comes from James and John's mother).
Questions & Meditations
Jesus wasn't too thrilled about their request. "You do not know what you are asking..."
Think about their request and consider the problem(s) with it.
How might you fall into the same problem with your requests to God?
Jesus tells them the path to greatness in the kingdom of heaven.
Should we strive for greatness in the kingdom of heaven?
What would that look like as a husband, father, mother, wife, child, neighbor, coworker?
Prayerfully consider the following verses:
Romans 2:7-8 (ESV)
to those who by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, he will give eternal life; but for those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there will be wrath and fury.
John 13:34–35 (ESV)
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
